The Pawnee Nation Tax Commission issues automobile tags to enrolled Pawnee Tribal members
residing within the confines of the areas of the State of Oklahoma that constitute former Indian
Reservation lands (“Indian Country”). (All areas of Oklahoma except the land known as the Cherokee
Strip.) As of this update (April 13, 2007) there are 1,507 vehicles actively registered with the Pawnee
Nation Tax Commission. Registration renews annually and the cost to register decreases each year.
The 2008 Motor Vehicle Registration chart shows the registration rates based on Factory Delivered
price and the year of the vehicle. Look up your vehicles year in the left hand column and the Factory
Delivered Price in the top rows, go down from the Factory Delivered price and over from the year to
determine the rate for new tags. Note: there are two amounts listed, the first amount is the amount of
taxes, the second amount is the total amount including title and fees.
AFTER HOURS OR WEEKEND APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE
If you are unable to make it in to the tag agency during normal working hours, special arrangements
can be made for an after hours or weekend appointment. You can either call the office or send an
email requesting a special appointment to register and tag your vehicle. Please do not come to the
tax commission without receiving a confirmation of your requested appointment time.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
TITLE FEES
Original or transfer title fee is $10.00. Fee for a duplicate title is $5.00.
Application for Duplicate Title
TRANSFERING TITLE back to the state or selling to a non-tribal member.
The vehicle owner gives to the non-tribal member the Pawnee Nation title, registration, lien release (if
there is a lien entered) and a certified copy of their CDIB card.
The Pawnee tribal member shall sign the back of the Pawnee Nation title in front of a notary public.
The non-tribal member shall take the title, registration, and certified copy of the tribal member's CDIB
card to a state motor vehicle tag agency to register for a state tag.
Neither the tribal member nor the non-tribal member shall be responsible for
any back State taxes.
The Pawnee tribal member will take the Pawnee Nation tag off the vehicle and return it to the Pawnee
Nation Tax Commission office to have inactivated in the computer system. If your tag is not inactivated
in our computer system, you will still be listed as the legal owner and responsible party of the vehicle.
LIEN FEES
Lien fees are $21.00, this covers both, adding and removing the lien. The Oklahoma Lien forms may
be used or you can call our office to obtain a Pawnee Nation lien form.
LOST OR STOLEN TAGS OR DECALS
Replacement license plates and decals are available for an additional fee of $5.00 per plate and
$2.50 per decal. In order to receive replacement license plates or decals a Replacement License
Plate or Decal Affidavit must be completed and returned with the police report and fees.
PERSONALIZED LICENSE PLATES may be purchased for an additional $35.00. The wording is
limited to a maximum of seven (7) characters with no punctuation marks, and must not contain any
profanity or lewd gestures.
Personalized license plates for motorcycles are an additional $35.00 each and must not contain any
profanity or lewd gestures with a maximum of four (4) characters with no punctuation marks.
Personalized Tag Application
BLACK TAG - Affidavit of Non Use in Lieu of Liability Insurance
Should a vehicle not be in use at the time of registration and, as a result, liability insurance not
required, an Affidavit of Non Use may be submitted in lieu of liability insurance verification. A
distinctive, non use registration decal will be issued.
Only the vehicle owner, or an individual with notarized power of attorney from the owner, may sign a
Non Use Affidavit.
Proper insurance must be obtained before the vehicle is placed into operation.
COLLECTORS LICENSE PLATES
Automobile tags that are returned to the Pawnee Nation Tax Commission may be purchased by
individual collectors for display in their tag collection but not for resale. Below is a link to the form that
must be completed upon purchasing a collector license plate.

COMMERCIAL VEHICLES
Commercial vehicles are vehicles utilized primarily in a commercial capacity. Registration rates are
determined according to the factory delivered price of the vehicle, and year of vehicle at a rate equal to
one-half of the amount of the tax imposed to non-commercial vehicles.
To qualify for commercial vehicle registration the owner of the vehicle must complete a Commercial
Vehicle affidavit stating that the vehicle is to be used primarily for his/her trade or business purposes,
and, must either:
Veterans’ License plates are available for Enrolled Pawnee members who can show DD-214 as
proof of eligibility. Veteran plates are available with PV distinction with a Wolf emblem, Purple Heart,
and National Defense Medal.
Disabled Veterans
Disabled Veterans who are Enrolled Pawnee members must provide DD-214 as proof of eligibility
along with Veterans Administration Letter of Certification of amount of disability. Reduced Rates at
$11.00 for New Plate and $6.00 for renewals.
MOTOR CYCLES
Registration tax on every motorcycle or motorized bicycle is $18.00 for a new tag and $6.00 for
renewals regardless of the age of the vehicle.

- Applicant must possess a valid driver's license.
- Applicant must have proof of liability insurance .
- Every person who is not a licensed dealer in used cars is required to apply for a transfer title
within thirty days after acquiring ownership or possession of this vehicle. Failure to do so
subjects the owner or possessor to a civil penalty. - All title assignments must be signed and sworn to before a notary public. The previous years
Registration Certificate should accompany this title.

- (a) affix the federal employer identification number of said business to the affidavit, or
(b) permanently affix the name of the business to each side of the vehicle in letters or
numerals at least one inch in height and in a color contrasting with the color of the vehicle.

proof of eligibility. Veteran plates are available with PV distinction with a Wolf emblem, Purple Heart,

THE RENEWAL NOTICES HAVE BEEN SENT AS A COURTESY AND ARE NOT REQUIRED TO RENEW THE LICENSE PLATE. Please note, by Pawnee Nation Ordinance, failure to receive a registration renewal reminder notice does not relieve a vehicle owner from the responsibility of timely renewing a vehicle's registration. Late registration renewal will result in the assessment of delinquent registration penalties. |
